Treatment

PH of almost any type is a chronic condition that can become life-threatening. Although there is no cure, there are several treatments available, and patients have more options than ever before. Most patients receive treatment prescribed for PAH; treatment of other forms of PH are often directed at treating the underlying condition. You may be treated with different types of medicines alone or combined with others. For some patients not responding to the treatments available, a lung transplant may be an option.

Pulmonary hypertension is frequently misdiagnosed and has often progressed before it is accurately diagnosed. Previously associated with a poor survival rate, new treatments continue to improve survival, with some patients managing the disorder for fifteen to twenty years or longer. Today, people are living longer and better with PAH. Together we have hope!
